Wow! I have been almost packed and ready to go for about 2 days now. Getting a employment visa and my passport back is still a fiasco. It has been a long week-end! My visa was issued Friday afternoon and the passport was sent to me that same evening. However, the attorney failed to send it for saturday morning delivery. So I had to hunt the envelope containing my passport through countless calls and automated voice recognition systems ("for spanish, say: 'Espanol' or press '2'"). I spent almost 2 hours at FexEd cheering the FedEx employees searching through 20+ containers of mail, in vain. I will have it tomorrow (fingers crossed).
So it's Sunday night and I am home alone. Oh, let me explain this last part. I had planned a nice trip to visit my family in France on my way to Bangalore and Becca and Isabelle were going to accompany me for that portion of the trip. Well, the two of them are already in France, eating some delicious food and hanging out with my folks. It wasn't pretty but Becca and Isabelle made it. Becca (7 months pregnant) has been a champ' taking on this dreadful task of crossing the atlantic with our little two year old. The plane was full and Becca had Isabelle on her lap (or whatever space is left of it considering the "baby bump") in a window seat next to a "very large" man. I don't think I have to elaborate too much on this topic as each can easily imagine what the flight must have been like.
I was supposed to leave yesterday but will leave tomorrow. The last task I have is to get my hands on my passport! This should be fairly easy now. I will be in France until probably next Wednesday and will then head to Bangalore (India), where I will be stationed until mid December. I will hopefully have some discretionary time to update this blog and share some of my experiences with you.
Side note: The best Indian food I have ever had came from a restaurant called "Memories of India", hence the title. It's not just a corny title, it actually has meaning...
